Photoshop Elements 7’s New Smart Brush Tool

Posted on 02. Apr, 2009 by admin in Elements Tutorials

One of the things I love about kicking the tires of a new version of software is finding out that a new feature has more to it then I originally thought. That’s the case with the Smart Brush tool in Elements 7. See, when I first heard about the tool, I thought we’d be able to do some smart dodging and burning and that the editing process would be more intuitive. But when I actually got to use the tool I realized it’s so much more.

The new Smart Brush tool works the way brushes should. In a nutshell, you pick an effect you want to paint on to the photo. This can be making something brighter, darker, or even more colorful. Then you simply click and paint on the photo just like you would with a brush. Elements takes care of the rest and even restricts your brush strokes to similarly-colored or toned areas. It’s way cool stuff, so make sure you check out this video on how to use Elements 7’s New Smart Brush to see it in action.
